The word “Vinyasa” is a Sanskrit term that means “the linking of body movement with breath” or a specific sequence of breath-synchronized movements used to transition between sustained postures. In the 200 hour teacher training, students also learn that a great sequence is brought about by a wise progression of steps that are taken in a practice to reach some sort of goal. Goals can be learning how to balance on one leg, stronger hip musculature, improved core strength, stress management, improved upper body strength, breaking down a challenging pose, or improved respiration. Often-times, the progression of movements and resistance challenges in a practice will help the student to achieve levels that otherwise would not have been possible! For the Yoga I.S. student, the class called “vinyasa” will allow them to experience a variety of yoga postures, with many movements that are strung together to award the student with greater overall muscle performance.
This class is a popular style in Yoga because it is suitable for all levels. Students love the moving quality of a vinyasa class, always going from one position to another without much of a pause. For those who find it difficult to hold or stay in a position for a longer period of time, this class will allow for a greater variety of postures, plus many progressive challenges leading up to the goal position. Through movement and joint range exploration, the goal of the class is to help students become better acquainted with their body and learn how to adjust positions so that they benefit them the most. This mindful workout is guaranteed to improve cardiovascular health, joint integrity, and overall strength.
Currently, this class meets four times a week. We keep the room warm, around 75-80 degrees, to help students challenge the heart rate and offer a more therapeutic environment for joints. (Plus it sure is nice in the cold weather to come into a toasty studio!) Instructors for this class offer unique dialogue, inspirational teachings, fun music playlists, and a great opportunity to change the way you look at exercise!
Come join us on Monday nights from 6:00pm-7:00pm, and allow your teens ages 12-18 to take the Yoga I.S. TEENS class upstairs! We also have vinyasa classes on Wednesday afternoons from 4:30pm-5:30 pm, Friday mornings from 9:15am-10:45am, and Sundays from 12:00pm-1:15 pm. You can register online for this class and more here.
Our vinyasa classes are unique in that we offer a ton of variety in the positions that are taught, including the order of poses, class themes, and the Yoga I.S. method of employing isometric challenges designed to activate more muscle around the joint to ensure both greater range of motion and better overall stability in poses.
