Yoga I.S.® Advanced Biomechanics of Hatha Yoga

*Required for the 300 hour Program. 

Yoga used as a form of therapy has become a part of many yoga trainings in our world.  There are many approaches that various Hatha Yoga Schools use that have been handed down for hundreds of years. At Yoga I.S. ® learn real-world therapeutic approaches using the techniques that are unique to our trainings but based on the yogic tradition.  This program will teach you in-depth about joint anatomy, the muscles that control them, and their mechanical ability to move joints in specific ranges. Learn how to address common conditions in a private or group setting by first employing specific range of motion evaluations and then how to apply them to specific Hatha Yoga Asanas in improving muscular balance.  Each course includes detailed course notes.

*Advanced Biomechanics of Hatha Yoga: Lower Body

  • Required 28 hour credit hours
  • Get a basic overview of the many of the muscles of the lower body, including their function and relevance to the study of joint mechanics when teaching and practicing yoga.
  • Learn how to apply specific range of motion evaluations for the lower body to yoga poses for better results with adjustments and modifications for your group or individual clients.
  • Learn why standing poses may not be the most “functional” for a beginning student to start with.
  • Learn therapeutic applications for common hip, knee, ankle and foot ailments.Get applicable techniques and hands-on experience for one-on-one clients or group settings.

*Special Populations and Progressive Teaching: Biomechanics of Hatha Yoga Applications

  • Required 28 hour credit hours
  • Learn the focal points of beginners and how to address this group in an individual or group setting
  • Learn about the essentials of client intake and yoga therapy for the individual
  • Introduce systemic, progressive teaching and walk away with a great take-home beginner routine that can be used immediately.

Yoga I.S.® Teaching Methodology  Intensive

  • 16 Hour Elective Credit
  • Designed to be a comprehensive practical experience.  Great Teachers can apply the knowledge they have acquired and apply it in a way that students both understand and benefit from.
  • Learn why certain “basic” or “advanced” poses have to do with how something is cued, progressed, and challenged, using the anatomical therapeutic applications for Lower Body, Upper Body, and Trunk & Spine.
  • Learn how to progress postures for students, with specific modifications, and cueing techniques.
  • Get guidelines for teaching to Multiple Levels in a group as well as sequencing ideas
  • This weekend will be devoted to class sequencing for therapeutic goals for individual and group instruction.

Combating Sciatic Conditions with Yoga

(16 hour elective credit)  With such a large number of people suffering from sciatic pain, more and more individuals are turning to yoga to find ways to combat the repetitive activities and positions that could potentially be the cause.  A complicated condition that causes neuromuscular issues such as pain, numbness, loss of balance and organ dysfunction, this workshop covers a brief overview of anatomy and potential causes for these conditions.  Learn specific Yoga Therapeutic techniques that can be used to improve neuromuscular integrity and overall muscle contractile-ability that can help your clients combat this uncomfortable condition.

Introduction to the Heart and Chronic Disease for Yoga Teachers

(16 hour elective credit)  Two-day course taught by Cardiologist Lisa Klein, MD, Yoga I.S. RYT-200

  • Learn about the anatomy and physiology of the heart
  • Learn how the heart interacts with the lungs, brain, gut and other organs
  • Learn about various conditions and chronic diseases, including but not limited to overweight/obesity, hypertension, diabetes, elevated cholesterol, congestive heart failure (“CHF”) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (“COPD”)
  • Learn how yoga interventions may impact body weight, blood pressure, blood glucose level, cholesterol level
  • Learn how yoga interventions may affect symptoms related to CHF and COPD
