Yoga I.S. Mechanix™

Yoga I.S. Mechanix™ Foundations I (Required*)

(20 Hour Credit)  This course introduces the science of biomechanics as it relates to Yoga as a form of  resistance training. In the practice of yoga it is very common to use many sorts of yoga props, from blocks, straps, bolsters, blankets, etc.  This workshop will not only address common yoga props but also define when using various types of resistance equipment can be necessary for specific people and specific goals.  Yoga I.S. Mechanix™ will help students to understand force, how to manipulate it, and why it is the primary stimulant in the practice of Hatha Yoga.  This course will require some studio class attendance as an outside study.

Yoga I.S. Mechanix™ Foundations II (Required*)

(20 Hour Credit) Adding external forces to the already challenging internal resistance being created from Yoga can challenge the body in ways that you have never felt before. Learn the importance of owning and understanding our body’s natural forces producers, muscle, before we add any outside challenges. This course progresses the information from Yoga I.S. Mechanix™ Foundations I by learning the properties of various resistance tools such as resistance bands, weighted dumbells, weighted bars, common yoga props, (straps, blocks), and pilates rings and mini balls and how to apply them to various yoga postures.  Learn how these tools can add challenge, re-direct force, add support, add understanding, and have an overall mind-blowing effect on a student’s mind-body experience. This course will require some studio class attendance as an outside study.

Yoga Rx Neck and Back Dysfunction

(16 hour elective credit)  They say that one is “only as old as the spine is flexible”.  However it is important to assess the interrelationship of joints from head to toe when working with clients suffering from neck and back issues.  The late B.K.S. Iyengar brought therapeutic yoga to America, exposing us to the first look at using Yoga Asana to treat various health issues.  In this workshop, we will employ a biomechanical take on these methods, using classic Yoga positions to evaluate range of motion and create powerful isometric resistance challenges in order to achieve improved range of motion and overall joint stability.  See how this evaluation process can be a great indicator of the client’s ability to deal with external loads and various challenges in his or her exercise program.
