This is a 1 day workshop. Sunday, 08/18/19, from 9-5:00.
This class may be taken alone, or as an elective for the Yoga Integrated Science 300 hour Teacher Training Certification Program. This 1 day workshop provides 8 credit hours.
About this course:
Osteoporosis is a common ailment seen in aging populations, especially women. Osteoporosis can lead to inactivity and broken bones if left untreated. Many people with this diagnosis are often afraid to practice anything physical for fear of injuring themselves.
Yoga has been touted for its ability to increase bone density but how do you apply this to clients diagnosed with Osteoporosis? Will any type of yoga have the desired results?
In this Hatha Yoga style workshop, attendees will learn how this common ailment impacts those who suffer from it. We will explore the anatomy of the skeletal and muscular systems as related to yoga. We will discuss how force acts on the areas that most commonly see loss in bone density as we age.
Workshop attendees will learn about how strategically placed force encourages muscular contraction. We will discuss how to use cues to assist our clients through exercises most likely to have a positive impact on this special population. Explore how and why using common yoga props is important and how to talk clients through using these props effectively.
After this workshop, students will understand how and why its important to guide their clients through placing different forces against the most common areas for bone loss. We will also learn how to go about discussing this issue with clients.
This day long workshop includes time in the classroom and time in the studio. Students will put into practice the things they have learned so they can experience the forces at work on their own musculature.
