Introduction to the Heart and Chronic Diseases for Yoga Teachers | 300 Hour Teacher Training Elective

This is a 2 day workshop introducing the anatomy of the heart and the impacts of chronic disease.
Saturday, 06/08/2019 from 9-5:00 and Sunday, 06/09/2019 from 9:30am-5:30pm both days. This class may be taken alone, or as an elective for the 300 hour Certification Program.
About this course:
This 2 day seminar will delve into the anatomy and physiology of the heart muscle. Students will learn how the heart interacts with the lungs, brain, gut and other organs. We will discuss in detail how the function of these organs is negatively impacted by chronic disease.
Students will learn about various conditions and chronic diseases, including but not limited to:
- elevated cholesterol
- congestive heart failure (“CHF”)
- chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (“COPD”)
We will discuss how yoga interventions may impact a students body weight, blood pressure, blood glucose level and/or cholesterol level. We will discuss how disease impacts and limits a yoga practice.
We will explore how yoga interventions may affect symptoms related to CHF and COPD. We will look at how a teacher may modify a practice for students with these diagnoses. Students can expect classroom time and time in the studio as the group works through various modifications. Students will earn how to construct and apply modified practices.
